Swapping an exercise

Sometimes the prescribed exercise will not work on the day: a machine is taken, equipment is missing, or something aggravates an old niggle. Both you and your client can swap it for a sensible alternative without rebuilding the plan.

How to swap:

1. Open the exercise card in the workout logger (Client view for you, or the client's own portal). 2. Tap Swap on the exercise. 3. The exercise picker opens, already filtered to similar exercises (same muscle group and similar equipment) so the replacement makes sense. 4. Pick one. The card updates to the new exercise and the change saves straight away.

This is the same picker you use when replacing an exercise in the editor, so the experience is consistent across both views.

One rule: you cannot swap an exercise that has already been logged.

Once any set has been logged against an exercise, that exercise is locked, because changing it would rewrite history the client (or you) already recorded. The Swap button is hidden on a logged exercise, and if a swap is attempted on a locked one anyway you will see a short message explaining why. If you genuinely need to change a logged exercise, edit the plan in Trainer view instead.

Trainer vs client swaps:

• When you swap in Trainer view, the change can be applied across the whole plan if the same exercise appears in other weeks (you will be asked). • When a client swaps in their portal, only the single exercise in front of them changes. Their swap never silently rewrites the rest of their program.
