Functional Fitness Assessments
What they are:
Functional fitness assessments let you record standardised fitness benchmarks for your clients and track changes over time. Results are compared against published population norms from the Rikli & Jones Senior Fitness Test.
Available assessments:
- Sit-to-Stand (30s): Count full stands in 30 seconds - Timed Up & Go: Stand, walk 3m, turn, return, sit. Measured in seconds - Grip Strength (L/R): Dynamometer reading in kg - Single Leg Balance (L/R): Eyes open, max 30 seconds - 6-Minute Walk: Total distance in metres - Gait Speed (4m): Usual pace 4-metre walk in seconds - Chair Sit & Reach: Seated reach past toes in cm (+/-) - Back Scratch: Hands behind back, distance in cm
Where to find them:
Go to Clients, click a client name to open their progress page, then select the Assessments tab. You will see the Active Living Indicator, report buttons, and all 10 assessment tests listed as expandable cards.
Recording assessments:
Tap any test card to expand it. You will see: - How to perform the test (step-by-step instructions) - Equipment needed (e.g. standard chair, dynamometer, stopwatch) - Benchmarks by age (published norms for male/female across age groups) - An input field to record the result
Enter the value and tap "Save Result". The card shows a green checkmark when recorded. A progress counter at the top tracks how many of the 10 tests have been completed (e.g. "7/10 tests recorded").
Benchmark categories (6 total):
All 10 tests map to 6 benchmark categories, each with published normative data for age and sex: - Sit-to-Stand (Rikli & Jones Senior Fitness Test) - Timed Up & Go (Podsiadlo & Richardson) - Grip Strength (Australian population norms, ACSM) - Single Leg Balance (community norms) - Gait Speed (Studenski et al.) - Flexibility / Chair Sit & Reach (Rikli & Jones)
Labels show "Above benchmark", "At benchmark", or "Below benchmark". These are fitness benchmarks, not clinical assessments.
Tip: The assessment cards are designed for use during a session with the client. Expand each test, read the instructions aloud, perform the test, and enter the result without leaving the page.
